Thread: 'Unrestored' TC on eBay

The seller in convinced that this is an unrestored car. I'm just as certain it's not. I'm not picking on car or owner, I just don't like sellers who mis-represent their cars - I strive for honesty.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1948-MG-T-Series/302349139078?_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3D248591ba7fd840bdb6f612c7788760ea%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D302349139078

Despite the seller claiming that it is "Original with 37,572 documented miles. Untouched and original paint", the paint has obviously been re-done since white was never an option for any TC car - nor was a black interior, door panels, top or full tonneau. The black fender welting proves it has been re-painted. The dash should be either wood veneer or rexine (I remember the change-over was in early 1948 but can't remember when), but it appears painted. The central panel should obviously be black.

I would say this is an early restoration gently gone to seed, but not original in any way. Better pictures might help, as might pictures of the engine. I bet he wants a lot of money for it...

I'm sorry if I implied anything about the seller; he just wrote me and pulled the ad, because he wants to get it right. Good for him!

Gary - opinions differ, but this is a good comparison chart:

Tom,

Don't you just 'luv' the contrasting black guard piping !! Ugh!
